Ever hang with someone at a party that can remember everyone's name? That's pretty cool, huh? Why is it so impossible for most of us to remember someone we recently met? Maybe even JUST met and their name has already slipped from our consciousness! Frustrating. Psychology Today says there's something you can do about it. Here are 6 steps to remembering someone's name:

  1. Look at the person's eyes -- The eyes never change, so focus on the eyes and you won't be tricked by little things like haircuts and new beards.
  2. Use "deep" processing information -- Form an association between the person's name and their face (particularly the eyes). Think of what the name reminds you of ("tina" might turn into "tea").
  3. Find out the names ahead of time, when possible. The names will get burned into your memory if you see them ahead of time.
  4. Really listen when you're introduced to someone new -- Give yourself an extra second to process the name with the face
  5. Practice the face-name game at home -- While watching a movie at home, consult a movie data base to get the actor's names. See how long you can remember them.
  6. Relax! When you're stressed, your body releases cortisol through your bloodstream, which is a memory killer.
