HEALING IN THE HEARTLAND: Blake Shelton, Miranda & More Raise Money For Tornado Victims

Blake Shelton gathered some of his superstar friends Wednesday night for Healing in the Heartland — a telethon/concert to raise money for United Way to help rebuild Oklahoma after last week’s devastating tornado.

Blake opened the show with a moving rendition of his hit “God Gave Me You.”
Darius Rucker performed the title cut off his album True Believers, an appropriate choice for the evening.
Rascal Flatts, whose lead guitar player Joe Don Rooney comes from Oklahoma, did their touching hit “Stand.”
A tearful Miranda Lambert barely got through “The House that Built Me,” as she sang in front of backdrop of animals affected by the tornadoes.
Tulsa native Ryan Tedder of One Republic sang “Counting Stars.”
Reba McEntire, who grew up in Chockie, Oklahoma, performed “Everyday People,” and then honored the first responders.
Norman, Oklahoma’s Vince Gill sang “Threaten Me With Heaven” for the 24 men, women and children who died in the storm.
Luke Bryan performed his latest single “Crash My Party.”
Blake and Usher closed the concert with “Home.”
Throughout the show, stars including Carrie Underwood, Jimmy Fallon, Alicia Keys, Jay Leno, Garth Brooks, Trisha Yearwood and Toby Keith urged viewers to donate.

After the show, United Way posted on their Facebook page that phone lines were jammed and their website crashed due to the outpouring of viewers wanting to donate.

Donations can still be made by texting REBUILD to 52000.

JENNIFER NETTLES: Dishes On New Solo Project

Jennifer Nettles is spilling the beans on her forthcoming solo project!

In a new blog, Jennifer dishes about the new music, describing the next phase of her career as “recreation.” She explains, “Every few years, whether one is aware or not, we humans tend to recreate ourselves. For me, it is some of the most fun ‘recreation’ that exists. That is why I am singing from the rafters (no pun intended) now that I’ve announced my new solo project.”

She adds, “Many of the songs for this project were written within the last two years -- a bulk of those were written within the last nine months. I had such a blast calling up old friends to come and write together. I also loved meeting and writing with new and talented writers, with whom I’d never collaborated.”

So who are those collaborators and what does the music sound like? For now, Jennifer’s staying mum on both fronts, claiming, “Adjectives describing music are so subjective and relative to each listener’s previous musical experiences … I am super excited to share this album with you so that you may describe it yourself.”
