More than a dozen people were injured when a gas explosion ignited a Kansas City restaurant on Tuesday evening.
Initially, there were no reports of deaths and authorities were still trying to determine if the blast we caused by a car crash or by construction workers. Prior to the explosion, people had complained about the strong smell of gas. The restaurant, JJ's, had shut down their kitchen at the time of the blast and inspectors from the gas company warned people to leave the restaurant shortly before the building exploded, just before 6 p.m. local time.
Two victims were in serious condition, with one in critical condition, at one local hospital, while another hospital was treating two victims in critical condition and six others who walked in seeking treatment for their injuries.
